Smithsonite: A Unique Collector's Gem
Smithsonite is a variably colored trigonal mineral, often found as earthy botryoidal masses rather than well-formed crystals. It typically forms in the weathering or oxidation zones of zinc-bearing ore deposits and can also replace carbonate rocks, sometimes serving as a zinc ore.
The recent discovery of a pocket in 2022 has made Smithsonite a fantastic opportunity for collectors. For the past few years, we've sourced matrix Smithsonite from Congo, which has been beautifully polished in South Africa. This makes for a unique and rare addition to any collector's cabinet, whether in its natural form or polished.
